In a tragic start to the 2021 display season, one of the UK's civilian formation team's lost one of their aircraft and pilot's at Headcorn airfield on Saturday 9th May.
The Stampe SV4.C, being flown by Angus Buchanan, crashed just off the airfield whilst conducting pre-season training, claiming the life of a well liked and experienced display pilots. The Stampe team are firm favourite at many shows across the UK, demonstrating the classic Stampe bi plane and are based out of Headcorn airfield in Kent.
The Stampe Team released a statement on their website on Sunday:
It is with deepest sadness that we have to announce the death of Angus Buchanan yesterday. An active and long-standing display pilot with the Stampe Formation Team, Angus was an extremely experienced and talented aviator and engineer with many flying hours under his belt. We have all lost a very dear friend who leaves a gap in all of our lives that can never be filled and all of our thoughts are now with his family to whom we send our most sincere and deepest condolences.
The crash remains under investigation by the UKAAIB and police.
